Be Fashion Friendly with Eco-fashions

Garments, accessories, makeup, shoes, and then some more designer wear – we just want the latest and all of it. But have you ever stopped to think where fashion has the worst impact? The environment! Here’s how the underbelly of fashion becomes ugly:
- The pesticides the farmers use to protect plants like cotton, jute, hemp, bamboo etc. contaminate the land and water
- The chemicals and dyes used to color the cloth pollute water bodies
- The dumps that overflow with old clothes and accessories that we throw away, which may or may not be biodegradable are eating away agricultural land
- Testing of cosmetics on animals
- And last but not the least, the almost subhuman conditions in which a lot of weavers and textile workers live
However, with just a little thought from our end we can opt for eco-fashion and do our bit to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
Eco-fashion is all about keeping in mind the health of our planet Earth while manufacturing the products for the fashion industry. So if we are talking about eco-fashion clothes, these will be made from organically grown raw materials, with nature friendly dyes. The people making these clothes will have been treated fairly and not exploited. Such clothes can also be made from material that has been recycled and which will last longer.
Eco-fashion is still a new concept. And right now the onus is on the manufacturers to opt for such techniques that will cause minimum damage to the environment. The concept of eco-labeling has begun doing the rounds to give the consumers an idea about environment friendly garments. And top designers are already experimenting successfully with such products. The next step is to spread awareness among the people about this notion.
Fashion is beautiful and there is no reason why its impact on our environment should be anything but benign. Go fashionably green; use eco-fashion products.
Before I go, in my humble opinion all of you who are into this whole thought of a more planet friendly lifestyle really need to check this out. Enigin has some really unique ideas for firms who are concerned about thier carbon footprint, I am really respecting them right now.
