Talking Rot.

Talking Rot.

If you are like me and you want to try and be more environmentally conscious, then a great way of going about it is to get a composting bin. Don’t be fooled into thinking they are only meant for people with big gardens because you can get them in all different sizes.

I have a boyfriend and two young children so when I am using vegetables for the dinner there are plenty of peelings to get rid of. We only have a fairly small lawn in the back garden but there are still a lot of grass clippings. There is also quite a large tree of heaven in front of our house and in the autumn there are always plenty of leaves to rake up and get rid of.

When we first got our composting bin I didn’t think we would have very much to put in it. I was wrong; there are all sorts of things that will rot down. And everything that goes into that is less to put into the rubbish bin.

Because everyone is a lot more concerned about the environment now, you can actually pick up composting bins quite cheaply. It might also be worth contacting your local council to see if you can get one for free. The authorities in some areas give them out for nothing as part of their recycling scheme.

And when it is time to put some new plants in your garden it is really nice to be able to use your own compost. It is much nicer than just going to the garden centre and buying a bag. And it also saves you some money!
