The Green Family.

We all decided to try and be as green as possible a couple of years ago now. My husband started to do more walking and less driving, I switched to environmentally friendly cleaning products and the kids got moaned at if they left any lights on.
It hasn’t all been easy to do. There are so many things that we needed to change. Some stuff was just habit; like leaving the tap running when you are cleaning your teeth, but we have made a lot of progress. And it isn’t just the planet that has benefitted from us changing our ways… We have managed to save a lot of money as well.
There are all kinds of things you can do to help the environment. Learning how to recycle properly is a big part of it as is having showers rather than baths and using the car less often. We are still finding new ways of changing all the time. We recently dropped the central heating down by two degrees after my husband read a ‘Top Ten Green Tips’ blog.
At this time of year it is really important that you make sure your home is insulated properly. If the fluff in your attic is letting heat escape then you are losing money all the time. By spending a few hours tracking down and stopping drafts you will notice a massive difference to how warm you are. Also, if you put on extra clothing then sometimes you won’t even need to switch on your central heating!
Going green is something that we can all learn to do as a family. The kids might complain about it to begin with but, if they are like my two, after a while they will love to join in.
One last thing, I have just found a really informative blog on Enigin Energy Savings . It has all sorts of innovative energy saving suggestions and campaigns, and some pretty enjoyable posts as well! Have a look!
